Arcadia Real Estate Description

Arcadia is place that time has forgotten. Home to the oldest continuously
run rodeo in the nation, Arcadia is a quiet country
town that is a haven for antique buffs. Where else can you still
find "swamp cabbage" on the menu? A friendly,
peaceful, and historic small town (population 6,498), Arcadia
began as a small settlement called Tater Hill Bluff, overlooking
what was then known as the Pease or Peas Creek. In 1883, it was
assigned a U.S. Post Office and named Arcadia. Incorporated
three years later, it now serves as the county seat for Desoto County. Unknown to most, Florida is one of the top cattle
producing states and in Arcadia, cattle and citrus are king and
real cowboys still find work. The area also attracts fossil
hunters. It is not usual to find sharks teeth in the Peace River
as well as other exciting finds like mastodon teeth. There are
places along the river that when the water level is low, you can
see prehistoric bones sticking right out of the limestone.
Arcadia has a mayor, who is chosen from among five elected
council members, as well as a city manager.
What Arcadia Real Estate has and enjoys is:
- Low property taxes
- A modern Hospital and Schools
- Many Civic and Service Organizations
- Over 300 buildings on the National Historic Register
- Four golf courses
- Over 50 Churches
- Great boating and fishing in the Peace River
Downtown storefronts have been converted to some of the most
unique antique shops in Florida. The laid-back atmosphere of
this community with its aesthetic charm, reminds us of Florida
past, with sweeping oaks, Spanish moss, cattle ranches, orange
groves and "Florida
Cracker" homes.
